Home shopping giant, Damart, is set to reveal its brand new colleague restaurant ‘1871’ at its Bingley head office, which employs 650 local staff. In tandem with the opening, the business has announced that it will aim to provide regular healthy choices for colleagues and guests whilst at work, as part of its 10th year celebration partnering with Heart Research UK.
The new staff restaurant which has had the same design for over 30 years, reflects Damart’s industrial heritage – the company is based in an old mill which was built in 1871. With help from local companies, Damart has successfully modernised the canteen with a 16-week refurbishment project for the 350 colleagues who eat there.
Damart will be working alongside Heart Research UK, a Leeds-based charity who they have supported for a decade, to look at how they can better provide healthy and wholesome food for guests and colleagues.
The new look staff restaurant will be officially opened on Tuesday 29 January by Damart’s longest serving colleagues, several of whom have worked for the business for more than three decades. They will be accompanied by Damart directors, Linda Montgomery and Stuart Creeley, as well as Barbara Harpham from Heart Research UK.
Joanne Phipps, Colleague Engagement Advisor at Damart said: “Our colleagues’ wellbeing is of the utmost importance and we want them to feel that they can come here, take some time away from their desk, feel relaxed and enjoy some good, nutritious food in attractive surroundings.”
Ben Northrop, H&S and Facilities Manager for Damart, went on to say: “This has been a really great project to be involved with and as a team we are excited for colleagues to come and enjoy this space.”
