Damart takes pivotal role in Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture’s first PLAY programme

    By Damart Corporate | Corporate, Local | Comments are Closed | 19 February, 2025 | 0

Damart is delighted to be hosting Grue, welcoming local residents and communities to discover the heritage of Bingley, as part of the Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture.

Grue, an immersive dream-like installation, inspired by the heritage of Bingley, has been commissioned by Bradford 2025 and is held in the basement of Damart Mill, open to the public throughout half term until 23rd February.

The installation, designed by Wintercroft and produced by Yorkshire-based charity ARCADE, is a collaboration among local communities as its scenery has been created in school and library workshops, and has been made from entirely sustainable and re-purposed materials.

Teams from fashion brand Damart, which is based at the mill, supported in clearing the site’s 450 sqm basement to prepare for GRUE, and its on-site restaurant ‘1871’ will be open for guests to enjoy after their visit, as part of Damart’s ongoing commitment to supporting local communities.

Jeanette Howard-Jones, Co-Managing Director at Damart UK, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture and welcome everyone who will be visiting us to solve the mysteries of the Damart Mill! Damart UK moved into Bowling Green Mills almost 60 years ago and it is a joy to be based somewhere with a rich history in the textile industry. This event and partnership is a wonderful collaboration between local schools and families. It is an honour for Damart to be at the heart of Grue and we are excited for new generations to learn more about our local heritage.”

Grue is the first event in Bradford 2025’s year-long PLAY programme, a series of events and playful interventions that will take place over the course of the year. More information can be found on their website: What’s on | Bradford 2025
