Damart celebrates with Friends of Myrtle Park following £10,000 funding through On Seniors’ Side Foundation.
Bingley-based fashion retailer Damart has celebrated with community group, the Friends of Myrtle Park, following an ongoing partnership helping to maintain and restore a local park.
Damart’s charity foundation, On Seniors’ Side, works to encourage seniors to be active to improve their wellbeing, encouraging them to engage in society, promoting intergenerational links and supports caregivers to facilitate healthy aging at home.
As part of its ongoing commitment to supporting local initiatives, Damart has provided almost £10,000 in funding to Bingley-based Friends of Myrtle Park (FOMP) – a community-driven group that maintains and nurtures the local park, which is host to regular music events and a weekly Parkrun.
Through the funding, Damart’s support has provided FOMP with new picnic benches and a hand-painted mural on the remaining wall of the former paddling pool. An interpretation board detailing the history of this area, known locally as “Children’s Corner” will complete this project.
Damart and FOMP hosted a joint celebration picnic in June, welcoming more than 40 guests representing the local council and community groups
Kenny Singh, Head of People from Damart, said: “The On Seniors’ Side foundation is very important to our business, not just to give back to our local communities but to give our colleagues an opportunity to be involved in initiatives that mean something to them and that give back to society – whether it’s a national charity or a cause closer to home.
“We’re passionate about supporting seniors and helping provide more representation for them in society, particularly as many of the Foundation’s initiatives will resonate with our customer base. It is a delight to be supporting FOMP and we look forward to seeing Myrtle Park continue to flourish and thrive.”
Rosie Sharp from Friends of Myrtle Park said, “We’re so grateful to Damart for their ongoing support for our work in the park. The benches have been a huge success with park users and the new picnic area is an ideal spot for families and friends to meet by the river.”
