We’re proud to announce that Damart has officially been accredited as an Active Travel Business Champion by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority.
The West Yorkshire Combined Authority is actively working to promote active travel in the region through various funding initiatives – aiming to improve and safe walking, wheeling and cycling infrastructure across West Yorkshire.
The Active Travel Business Champion accreditation celebrates employers who make meaningful, long-term commitments to healthier, greener journeys and who act as role models for other organisations across the region.
Damart’s recognition follows recent investment in new facilities designed to support colleagues who choose to commute actively. With upgraded shower and changing areas, plus new bike shelters across our Bingley and Steeton sites, we’re committed to making active travel easier and more accessible for everyone.
The West Yorkshire Combined Authority highlighted that Damart demonstrated strong practice across five key areas:
- Policies promoting a positive, active and sustainable travel culture
- Providing facilities and flexible options that help colleagues commute in ways that work for them
- Designating a team or individual to champion active and sustainable travel internally
- Exploring opportunities to embed active travel into the working day
- Sharing best practice with other organisations across West Yorkshire
Ben Northrop, Health and Safety and Facilities Manager at Damart, said, “We’re delighted to receive this accreditation, which recognises the genuine commitment our teams have made to supporting healthier and more sustainable ways of travelling to work. Investing in active travel isn’t just about facilities, it’s about creating a workplace culture that empowers people to make positive choices for their wellbeing and for the environment. We look forward to continuing our efforts to support healthier, greener ways of travelling to work.
